Leuplod VX lll 8.5-25X50 LR

In this article I will look at the Leuplod VX lll 8.5-25X50 LR.

Leupold is a long established American riflescope manufacturer with a broad range of scopes to suit every occasion. one of the ranges which has been around for a while is the VX lll, riflescopes available in this range go from VX-3 1.5-5x20mm to the larger Leuplod VX lll 8.5-25X50 LR.

The Leuplod VX lll 8.5-25X50 LR has a minimal magnification of 8.5 and a maximum of 25 (24.3). light is gathered through a 2.3" objective and the target is viewed through a 1.6" eyepiece. The tube diameter in 1.18" (30mm) and tube length is 6.5". There are resettable, by ways of 3 grubber screws, target turrets under the long aluminium turret caps. Each turret both windage and elevation have 15 moa (minute of angle) per rotation and a total of 94 MOA elevation and windage.

The Glass I found to be very clear and showed good contrast and definition. The image was bright and clear. At 1000 yards I could clearly see the target face and identify the individual scoring rings. This allowed me to place the centre of the reticule where I wanted it. Mirage and the speed and direction of it could be seen along with any changes in its presence.

The Reticule being the varmint hunter reticule was definitely of great use as the hash marks along the horizontal stadia were 2 moa apart and allowed for good judgement of correction. I could measure with the reticule how many moa I would need to correct.

Turrets proved positive and gave an audible and positive click. With 15 moa per rotation and 94 moa total elevation, I could easily get out to 800 yards without a 20moa scope rail, which most scopes seemed to need.
